Drum machines / Cheetah MD8 drum machine tapes
Last post by lagoogy - February 24, 2021, 04:11:11 AM
Hi everyone,
I recently got hold of a Cheetah MD8 and the internal battery died, so I replaced it and also loaded in some sounds from a .wav file from this site. The .wav contained the sounds from the standard kit and I was wondering if anyone had access to the various kits that were made for this drum machine - I would love to get the electro kit for it.

A tip for anyone who has one and is having trouble loading the kit. Use a stereo lead from your headphone out of your audio interface, load the wav into a DAW and raise the volume until the ouput is in the red  and make sure you have the headphone out of your interface really high.  I tried for a while using various volumes and in the end I had to crank the volume like I just mentioned for it to load the sounds.

Also, would it be possible for sounds to be encoded in a sound editor like audacity/soundforge and then converted into I presume a mono, 8bit 22KHZ file and then somehow encode it to a tape to be loaded into the MD-8. Imagine a 909 kit in this lo-fi beast. I read online someone did it with the specdrum which was made by the same two guys who made the MD8.

Thanks.

Parts, Components, Unbent machines & Junk / Low input level SK-5
Last post by dreamshala - January 29, 2021, 02:41:31 PM
Hi, I have the sk-5 with a defect.
I have to basically scream into the mic to get the sampler to register sound. Same holds true for the external input and mic input. Anyone know what the likely culprit is?

Cheers
and thanks

Roland & Boss / TR626 Low Volume, faint LCD
Last post by SynthFellow - January 29, 2021, 07:27:48 AM
Hi, i got an 626 wich is semibroken. There are sound coming from the machine but at a low volume, and the lcd-screen is very faint like it gets too little power. AND if i try to run it on batteries there is no sound at all. The little red led is lit.. but kind of blinks. Any ideas of what to do?

EDIT: Theres a difference if i change AC-adapter. To me it seems like a power issue. Could it be bad capacitors?? And in that case which ones do i try to replace at first?

Hello,

I ordered from the bom for Tayda. They were prompt to deliver and the cost was delightful in itself.
I was able to get the noise filter to stop squealing.
I can hear a very faint bass, rim, snare, and hi-hat. Turning up the volume knob increases gain and hum, but the sound remains very weak. I just printed the schematic and I will go over it.

Finally, the snare does not seem to have any "snare noise"; just the pop of the drum. Are there any known reasons for this, considering my hi-hat does have white noise?

Thanks,

Ben

I have this problem, too. It seems like the drum signals are very weak and the output mixer needs too much gain.
I'm going to cut all the jumpers and see if the individual outputs are stronger.

A track from my first attempt at circuit bending.  Casio PT-87 mods include a 50k pot for pitch bend and tempo, 3.5mm mini stereo output and a "go fast" switch.
