dual supply from ac adapter

anyone know much about using a standard 12v ac adapter to obtain a symmetrical supply? ive found some info on google but i have virtually no experience with this stuff(rectifiers). does this look right? should i use 4001's or rectifier chips? any advice?

ray sells pcb's for both designs and gives the schematics so you can make your own

i always rip them of abandoned dvd players, easiest solution  :) and you have a +5v for bonus
