Stylaphone

Just got myself one of these (the newer ones that came out in the Uk before Xmas) anyone done any experimenting on it? Mine seems like a real bugger to get open for a start! *grin*

As far as i can tell a stylophone is just an analogue oscillator with a control voltage for pitch, and thats it.

You could put in a pitch knob or some kind of optical pitch control but i think thats about it and theres a million other things you can do that on.

I've never really understood the appeal of stylophones

these new ones have several different sounds and vibration control and stuff tho... i think the fun is in the interface, the little metal strip is kinda satisfying

i suppose the appeal would be $15 synth...i've thought about trying one for a "brain" for a keyboard, like bass pedals.

how hard could it be to actually build a keyboard for ome of these? it might be cool to get a retro box, maybe a mono cassette tape recorder from this era...

I'm sure you've already broken it open seeing as this post's from '08, but you can get a TON of feedback bends, and I think there's a decent filter bend in there too. I got one of these a couple years ago but unfortunately it's busted. . .I think. I may just have to re-solder the stylus.

I have two of the "re-release" ones.  There's quite a bit of space in there, isn't there?  Enough space for a simple envelope filter, I reckon...

because of the retro-fashion of the box, if you wanted to go modular with other circuits, you could always go to thrift stores and look for 1970's model transistor radios and field cassette recorders, gut them out and your other modules would look as retro as the stylaphone!

it seems that one of these would be good as a "brain" for a keyboard. adding a keyset or bass pedals could be cool. thoughts?
