A Certain Kind Of Wire I should Use?

Howdy folks. I was wondering if there's a certain kind of hookup wire I should be using for effect pedals. I made a tremolo pedal today and it's humming like crazy. I'm just using normal wire I got from Radio Shack (I was in a bind!). I was thinking shielded wire would cut it down, but the stuff I used made it worse.

are you sure you have the shielding of the cable grounded properly at both ends?

If theres that much hum then its not down to the cable you're using, the cabling isn't going to matter that much. In fact if its in a metal enclosure then the casing will probably be doing a good enough shielding job on its own.

I'd make absolutely sure that everything is grounded properly before suspecting the wire.

Yeah, I didn't really think it would matter THAT much. I'm using an old recycled circuit I've had laying around for a while. Maybe I should just re-solder the joints.

Also, does anyone know where I can find some 3PDT footswitches (the guitar pedal switches)? I've checked jameco and mouser and couldn't really find the footswitches, just toggles and rockers.

Never mind, found some. If anyone else has been having trouble finding them, here you go: http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=119&category_id=8&vmcchk=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=45

if you have a (once) nice guitar cable with a short (which will eventually happen), assuming it is sheilded, couldn't you just cut it and use it?

fender california cables are fairly cheap, and quiet, from my experience (even through my 2 prog power plug on my old univox!), and around $20 bucks. buy a new one, and that would wire a lot of home brewed pedals!
