so i'm looking around on ebay and places to check out some bent sk-1s, and i always seem to notice, people don't put the full 28 points that are available for a patchbay.. they always seem to put 16, or 20.. why is this? i haven't yet bent my sk-1 but i am just curious, like, look here:

one row has 14, and the other variable has 14 has well, which makes 28..

anyone care to help me out? hey, if someone can even throw up a schematic, or draw on the current picture, that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

well, a lot of the time you select the prime bends. I much prefer switch bays for sk's rather than having to remember what connections I've gotta make to get a certain sound.
Space is also an issue. If you're having a 28 point bay you've gotta have enough room for the components and the speaker area isn't big enough to house that many jacks efficiently... in my opinion.
Also some connections will invariably crash the keyboard and I'd rather have 16 stable points and a reliable machine.

but yeah, get yours bent. they're the best!
There's a bunch of LED points as well which react and pulse to the melody/bass/drums and that makes it well disco or diSKo-1 if you like :)

If you look at the datasheet for the memory ICs, you'll see that some of the pins aren't connected.  Two are power connections, and a couple of others are permanently connected to ground or +5V for various reasons.  Of the remaining address and data pins, some of them aren't much use because they just plain don't make nice noises.
If at first you don't succeed, stick it through a fuzzbox.

ah, that makes sense.. anyone know where to find the datasheet information?

You can actually kind of eyeball it and see what's what.

Found this you might be interested in; http://www.intelligentmachinery.net/?q=node/350
It's Tablebeasts' guide to SK1 bending.
Enjoy.

There's this really good site for looking stuff like that up, called "Google".  You can find it by looking it up in the search engine of your choice, or possibly just http://www.google.com ;-)

I'm sorry, you seem to have confused me with someone who is here to spoon-feed people the answers with a step-by-step guide.

*I* had to STFW to find out these things.  It shouldn't be beyond the average circuitbenders.co.uk poster to do the same.  You won't learn anything if I just tell you some magic incantations to make it work...

Tell you what, in future I'll just STFU and not answer questions at all.

I can't work out if your being sarcastic or your actually peeved off at my post. (such is the way with internet forums)

My apologies if you are.

Semi-peeved, semi-serious, very short-tempered today.  Some utter <unprintable Gaelic profanity> has hauled down and cut my HF aerials, and then called the Environmental Health department about the mess of tangled wire all over my garden.  I wish there was still enough snow to show up footprints.
(edit)
Also, I'm getting a bit annoyed at being pestered by a couple of people (not on here) who should know better, with "how do I do..." questions and expecting a ten page manual with illustrations, when two seconds of googling would tell them.
