I've nothing specific in mind but I recall some guy on youtube stacking fm chips from one of the pss and getting insane results (possibly in conjunction with other bends. Anyhow, can't find the vid now for reference.

Just wondering if this is common practise and what machines, if any, it works well on.

Spoke too soon, just re-discovered it. It's a little more complicated than just stacking as he's changed clock frequency and performed dataline cut mods too...

Alien Synth Yamaha Portasound PSS 390 (Circuit Bent by BAUM)

Some of the best circuit bent sounds I've ever heard though!

Sweet eh!

Since rediscovering the clip I went on evilbay and bought the first 390 I found haha.

this is great!
definitely going to have to go and find an fm keyboard to try this on.

I think the 390 is one with the multi layer circuit boards, very confusing trying to work out what goes where.

yes true, very hard to figure what's going where..
i always tought the drums on that keyboard are pcm ?
still the nicest from the pss series in my opinion , however don't know them all.

i have now a philip rees c16 faderbox connected to my tx81z.. very pleasant, it reminds me of this clip..

Bogus Noise

That's very nice, love the chip stacking concept, and the use of an old light housing for the controls!

I'm living out of boxes at the mo so haven't got around to any sort of tinkering for a while but anyone else taken the stacking idea and done anything with it?

Awaiting the plastering of my proposed studio/workshop room but will be all over it once that happens :)

Bogus Noise

Not had a chance... I have two VSS300s that I plan to test it out on, but it's going to be ages yet!

Dj Task Manager

Ive got two SA1's that should be easy enough to merge together.
My predictions are its going to sound rotten!

Taking it a step further even, I wonder what networking them would do. linking the 2 separate keyboards by wires between the corresponding pins and pressing different keys on both keyboards....

...there's not really much in the way of sensible scientific thought going on in my head there though and would most likely lead to 2 cooked casios haha.

Anyone got a contact email for Daniel Baum?
Please message me  :)
